Happy March from Marci McGuinness

Happy March from Author, Marci Lynn McGuinness!
In 1981, I published my first booklet, "What's Happenin' in Ohiopyle." It was a directory of businesses.
Those first books were written on a typewriter. I bought a Smith Corona lap top word processor in 1990. Now I can talk to my computer AND phone.
Since then, I have written and published 30 books, two screenplays, videos, magazines and hundreds of articles.
Over the past 33 years, the publishing industry has changed drastically. Computers, internet, e mail, pdfs, e books, blogs, Facebook, LinkedIn, oh my!
I wrote my first story with a pencil when I was six years old.
So, this is my maiden blog voyage filled with:

Book  & Film Notes   Recipes   Health Tips  Mysteries &  Legends   Photos   FREEBIES  Travels and great Links.

As we head toward St. Patrick's Day and SPRING, I am rewriting my Uniontown Speedway board track screenplay, "Speed Kings."  It will be sent into Amazon Studios to be read by Warner Brothers.
I am also going to see Kevin Costner's Band, Modern West, in Annapolis, MD on April 15. He would make a fabulous George Titlow in the movie. I can see it now...the coal & coke boom, the wealthy men, the 1 1/8 mile oval wooden internationally famous track, 50,000 spectators, auto moguls, steel barons, film stars...

So far this year, I have:

Entered a Memoir contest through Simon & Schuster and the Huffington Post, writing a synopsis and three chapters of "Marci Unblocked, Who Needs a Doctor?" It is a comedy!

On Tuesday, February 25, I finished my novella, "Murder in the Vineyard." It is set in Chalk Hill at the Christian W. Klay Winery with scenes at the Titlow Tavern & Grille and one at the Stone House Inn. It is presently being edited and will be published later this month. Senator Crow, who built the home where the winery is established, passed away in 1922. They say his spirit peeks out the studio window over the event barn. Why is he still there? Find out in this fun historical mystery (fiction inspired by true events.)

Ayurveda Evaluation - I am lucky enough to have a best friend who is now becoming an Ayurveda Practitioner. As part of my evaluation, I have made a few lovely changes. One is so basic that in our silly rushed lives, it has become a bit of a vacation each day. Ready?
Turn off the television, radio, phone and get away from the computer during meals. AND do not do an activity for 15 minutes afterward. This 15 minutes is the vacation I am talking about. DO NOT do the dishes. DO NOT check your messages. DO NOT jump up and DO ANYTHING (unless you must use the facilities. lol).
Another change is eating fruit ALONE so that it does not ferment inside with slower-digesting foods. I had been making smoothies for years. These included fruit, milk, spinach and plain Greek yogurt. I now make my fruit smoothie without dairy, but drink the following yogurt recipe when needed:
 Takra Recipe

1/3 jar (large) of organic plain yogurt
2/3 jar (large) of warm water (you can use less if you want)
1 tsp cardamom powder
½ tsp cinnamon powder
½ tsp fennel powder
¼ nutmeg

Mix the spices with yogurt/water mixture, shake well and drink between meals. You may sweeten with maple syrup if needed.

NOTE: I do not use a sweetener in this at all and LOVE IT.

GOT MILK? Cow? Almond? Soy? Coconut? - First I was told not to drink cow's milk, then soy. I went back to cow's. Now I am drinking unsweetened almond and coconut milks. In my next post, I will announce the findings of my research into how the milks are processed and which ones are easiest for us to process through our bodies without harm. Frankly, it's confusing as a girl raised on raw cow's milk. I hope it helps you make the right choice for yourself, too!

This Coal Barge and Tug Boat on the Monongahela River was taken from my deck in the fall. This winter, during the deep freeze, I entertained myself writing and watching the tugs "Barge Through" the ice. A couple of them were forced sideways, but these Captains know their stuff.

I thank God for the water. To me, there is no better therapy than aqua. Keep flowing...
